Rothesay Herald Presides Over Ewing Family Convention at Strathleven House

Report on election of John Thor Ewing will be presented to the Lord Lyon for his consideration

Rothesay Herald George Way of Plean presided over the Ewing Family Convention, to consider recognition of a Chief, at historic Strathleven House. The Palladian Mansion was once the home of James Ewing MP for Glasgow, who died in 1853 but held by his descendants until the Second World War. A report on the Convention will be submitted to the Lord Lyon for his consideration.

Since the last Family Convention in 2014, Clan Ewing has been led by its commander, John Thor Ewing, and it has grown in strength and recognition. The last known Chief of Clan Ewing was Robert Ewing of Craigtoun, who is believed to have died in 1776. Since then, the line of descent has been lost, and it has not been possible to discover the heir to the chiefship by right of inheritance.

The Ewing Family Convention was held at Strathleven House, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, UK, and simultaneously at the Crowne Plaza St Louis Airport Hotel, Bridgeton, Missouri, USA, when, unless a claim can be proven through hereditary right, the clan will appoint its choice of chief—the first for nearly two-and-a-half centuries.
