The Ellon Castle Gardens, neglected for many years, have been undergoing restoration over the last few years and visitors can now see for themselves this once secret garden. Lights are now streaming forth from Ellon Castle, perhaps for the first time since Gordons dwelt within its walls two centuries ago. It is unusual in being the home of two different branches of the Gordons - the family of Baillie James Gordon, a wealthy merchant who made his money in Edinburgh; and the Earls of Aberdeen, from nearby Haddo House.
